Part D: arts apprenticeship

For section D we taught Y7's "ceramic slab construction".
we started by learning the skill ourselves with our ceramics technician. Working with our arts teacher we then completed a lesson plan and focused on using our time wisely in a group. (lesson planning sheet in folder)

After our lesson planning sheet we began our session with the year 7 students. We started by introducing ourselves, the tools and what they were going to be making (using our earlier designs as examples). They worked well and we managed to fit in extension task with them, after creating the box the students filled in an evaluation sheet on how we preformed. (in file)
After the students went home we discussed with our teacher what could have been improved and what we could do next time.

Part B: Being an Audience

For Section B we were to be an audience of one or more arts events.

I chose:

- A School Play "Soled Out"

- A Visit to the Tate Britain - "The Coral Reef"

For both theese visits we created a review, :

Part A: Exploring the Arts

In section A we worked on our "superhero" project in art class.

We worked in order to create our superhero characters. We started by taking pictures of ourselves and brainstorming ideas for our characters powers, strengths and weaknesses.
We then worked with photoshop adding in fonts, effects and images into our photos. we also added in colours and pieces of work from our books, via SLR cameras.

Skills.

We learnt numerous skills throughout the project:

- Learning to change, edit and colour our work on photoshopAlign Left

- Looking at things in different perspectives

- Working 2D and 3D in to one in order to create new effects

- Working an SLR camera with different light to get different effects

During and after the project I used photoshop in order to create images I WOWED my family with.

Overall.

Overall I enjoyed the project as i am also a fan of comics and manga styled art, and enjoy creating my own charecters and storylines. Next time i would spend less time on planning and more time looking at alternative ways of doing things.

Part C: Arts Heroes and Heroines

I have chosen to complete part C focusing on Graffiti Artist Banksy.

Banksy was born in 1974 and raised in Bristol, England. The son of a photocopier technician he trained as a butcher however became involved in graffiti during great Bristol aerosol boom in the late 1980s. His artwork often comes with a stand out message that often relates to society or the environment we live in.
Banksy does not sell photos of his artwork - however auctioneers have been known to sell his works and leave the problem of removal to the winning bidder.
Banksy's street art combines his particular stencilling technique and graffiti writing similar to french artist Blek Le Rat. His artwork often stands out, sometimes relating to the enviroment around it.

Career and Life Style.

Banksy started as a freehand graffiti artist 1992 - 1994 as one of Bristol's DryBreadZ crew he was inspired by local artists and his artwork was part of the Bristol underground scene. From the start Banksy used stencils - but after realising this technique saved time he carried on and soon became widely known for his styles of graffiti.

Banksy's stencils feature striking and humorous images sometimes combined with captions. The messages are often anti-war, anti-capitalism or anti-establishment. Subjects often include soldiers, rats, spiders, monkeys, children or the elderly. He also creates sculpture for example the "murdered phone-box" as seen below:

On top of sculpture and graffiti Banksy also creates stickers - "the Neighbourhood watch subvert"

Career Path.

Banksys art is often sold by auctioneers for soaring prices for example his one piece "grafitti removal": that sold for £92,000 way over the estimated price. However banksy has no known career most likely down to having a hidden identity.

Influence.

I chose Banksy for this section because just like me he likes to make a statement both colourful and bright images. All pulling it's viewer in - I also enjoy the way he uses art to express his points to the public mixing them with the surrounding environment. His artwork stands out it is different and unique combining two very different techniques.
